ATM Training
Asynchronous Transfer Mode has been widely deployed within the last decade.
It's powerful technology enables network designers, administrators and users
to use more than best-effort data transfer. Nevertheless, using ATM's advantages
requires a deep understanding of the architecture and mechanisms.
Seminar Objectives
- Understand the ATM concept
- Realize advantages compared to other technologies
- Get insight into building blocks, layers and protocols
- Grasp the different transmission modes
- Study protocol details in hands-on sessions
Seminar Description
- Type: instructor-led,
- Duration: 1-3 days (can be adapted as required)
- Materials: Powerpoint slides with annotations and Index, Instructor handbook upon request
Seminar Outline / Building Blocks
- Introduction to the ATM Training
- Motivation for ATM, History, Standards
- ATM Physical Layer
- Transmission media
- The ATM Layers
- (AAL1, AAL2, AAL3/4, AAL5)
- Signalling Protocols UNI / NNI
- User Network and Network Network Signalling, PNNI
- Classical IP and LAN Emulation
- Data transfer modes over ATM networks
